What is Counseling?

Counseling is an opportunity to talk through issues or challenges that you are facing with a trained and objective person. Our therapists use and are trained in a variety of therapy styles/orientations and will tailor their approach to your needs. We believe that therapy works best when there is a safe and trusting relationship built between client and therapist. While we are the professionals, you are the one who knows yourself best and we will partner with you in our approach of building awareness, finding new tools/strategies, and making lasting change.

What will the first session be like?

The initial session will begin by completing and reviewing intake paperwork. Your therapist will review confidentiality and treatment consent as well as go over general practice policies. The therapist will then spend the rest of the session asking questions to begin to get to know you and what led you to seek counseling. Your therapist may ask about your family background, current support system, mental health history, lifestyle and daily stressors, etc. Together with your therapist, you will begin to identify treatment goals. You will also have an opportunity to ask your therapist questions and ensure that you feel like the relationship is a good fit.

*For children and teenagers, we will begin the session with teen and parent/s and then spend the remainder of session one on one with teen.

Do you offer faith-based counseling?

We believe in an approach that considers the whole person. This involves the mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, etc. aspects of your life. We will ask questions about each of these areas of your life and seek to meet and support you in your faith. We want to be a place where you feel supported and safe discussing your beliefs and how your spirituality plays a role in your life and mental health. Our job is not to preach or offer spiritual direction, but we understand how important faith can be in a person’s life and healing process.

Faith-based counseling can look different for each person. We can incorporate prayer into the session, provide space to talk about your beliefs and journey in faith, explore doubts or struggles, and incorporate your faith practice as a strength and coping skill as we work through other issues. If faith-based therapy is something you desire, your therapist will talk with you about what would feel comfortable and support you in that process.

How long is a session?

Typically, a therapy session will be about 55 minutes. We do our best to begin on time and ask that you arrive on time as well. If you are late, we are usually unable to extend the session.

Is what I say kept confidential?

Yes. Everything said in session is kept private. The only time a therapist will break this is if the therapist believes you are at risk to yourself or others or if there is an incident of child or elder abuse. We also may be required to share information if there is a qualifying court order. There are slight variants to this when we work with children and teenagers as they are still minors. We will discuss this with you at your first session and make sure that therapist, client, and parents feel comfortable with what confidentiality will look like moving forward.

How much does each session cost? Do you take my insurance?

Initial intake sessions are charged $195 and following sessions are charged $140. We are happy to bill insurance and are in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield (PPO). We are also familiar with HealthShare programs and offer self-pay rates.

Ultimately it will be your responsibility to ensure payment and insurance coverage.
